Paper and pulp industry in kenya contributes 2% to the national GDP, it aslo creates a backward and forward linkages among the other sectors in the economy whether in manufacturing, printing, packaging etc. First paper production in the country started in thr year 1957 thereafter quitea number of mills started operation in the country, now anumber of firms are engaged inproduction of paper .
At present demand is exceeding local production by more than 25% which is met by importation.Majority of paper producers are depending on waste paper for paper production, government permission for virgin pulp production from Kenya forests is granted to limited mills.There is a huge investment opportunities exist for more paper mills due to the local demand and supply gap and also for export and re-export.Economic growth has led to increasing importance of the printing and publishing industry, best quality and fast delivery is what the industry demands.
